2015 Gridiron Australia Junior Nationals Invite Squad

2015 Junior Nationals PerthThe Victorian junior players selected to train for the 2015 Junior Victorian Eagles campaign to travel to Perth, April 4-11 2015 for the Gridiron Australia Junior National Championships.

Head Coach John Granat and Team Manager Mark Levin have worked with the Head Coaches of each club to define the train on squad as we look to capitalise on our biggest and best Junior season ever here in Victoria with a National Title next year.

Playoff scenarios heading to the penultimate round

The penultimate round of the 2014 senior season is MASSIVE with playoff implications across the league.

Division one playoffs are structured whereby the top seed in each conference has the first weekend off, whilst 2nd plays 3rd. The winners of those matches then face the rested top seed in the conference championship with the winners heading to the 2014 TGI Friday’s Vic Bowl XXX.

Division two playoffs are simple: 1st plays 2nd based on the home and away standings at seasons end.

Another Victorian heads to US College: Sean O’Kane

Former Barbarian Sean O’Kane is packing his bags and heading for Middle Tennessee State University in Conference USA (the Blue Raiders).

Sean, 6’3 leaves Australia Wednesday and with camp beginning Sunday 3rd August he will challenge for the punting position as a walk on. His first game would be against Savannah State on the 30th August whilst home field is Johnny “red” Floyd stadium that holds a mere 30,000 people!

Prior to his Gridiron career he played Australian rules for Blackburn FC and Collegians FC, honing that cannon of a leg that will serve him well at MTSU.

GV spoke with Sean this morning:

I’m really excited at the opportunity to play and study in another country and looking forward to getting stuck into training camp.

In addition to playing, Sean served the league incredibly as secretary for 2 years and was instrumental in running the Vic Bowl last year.

Junior State Coaches Wanted!

2013 Junior Victorian EaglesGridiron Victoria is seeking a Head Coach to develop our Junior Victorian Eagles program in preparation for the 2015 Junior National Championships.

The tournament will be held likely in April 2015.

GV will be developing a Junior High Performance program to develop our best young players who demonstrate potential for representative football.

Applicants should submit a resume and cover letter via email to the GV secretary.

Cover letter should address proposed practice times, locations, frequency, etc.  It should also identify potential assistant coaching staff and other staff (i.e. Medics/trainers and Team Manager).
