U19’s Junior Development Camp: Sunday June 22nd

Under 19s Junior Development ClinicGridiron Victoria is proud to announce that we are hosting a Junior development camp for all new and returning under 19 players. The day will consist of 2 clinics. The first being a basic skills development clinic, followed by a BBQ lunch. Then in the afternoon a High Performance clinic.

These clinics are free for all to attend and we encourage anyone looking to begin playing our great sport to attend and learn. 

10am – 12 midday: Gridiron Fundamentals Clinic
12midday – 1pm: BBQ lunch provided
1pm – 3pm: Gridiron Skills Development Clinic
3pm – 4pm: High Performance Clinic
4pm – 5pm: Controlled scrimmage (for players with previous experience only)

GV is looking to emulate the fastest growing sport in the world and is confident the sight of semi-naked men running around trying to play Gridiron will appeal to a broader base than the full-kit variety, now into its 30th year.

Aussie college superstar bringing his team downunder

In the biggest news to grace our shores a leading NCAA football program will be coming to Australia in July to take on the Australian Outback Team.

The fabled Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will be heading downunder, bringing with them their own home grown Victorian superstar Adam Gotsis who began studying and playing at GT last year after a stellar career with the Monash Warriors.

New AFL rule to be adopted by GV in 2014

Following the trailblazing work of the AFL to introduce “No ladder, no scoreboard” for junior Aussie Rules, Gridiron Victoria is taking it one step further in 2014.

In an effort to promote participation rather than competition, thousands of junior AFL players will be forced to play with no scoreboard, ladders or match results, a move seen as not doing enough to protect players according to GV.

It is not about who wins or loses, who scores or who doesn’t. It is all about running around for two hours with no real objective or purpose. Why do kids always get all the fun?

“It is frankly quite arrogant to take sport in such an exciting new direction, yet deny the biggest demographic of our playing ranks – seniors.”

As a result Gridiron Victoria will be removing all scoreboards, results and standings for men, women and junior competitions in an effort to promote fairness and equality.

“It was really quite tedious updating standings” the spokesman added. “Our officials have to contend with governing the game, no one wants the additional burden of keeping score.”

Consistent with the plan, GV will craft 13 Vic Bowl replicas to ensure each team gets one at the end of the season.

The new policy was enacted following an executive meeting on April 1st.

GVTV nominated for a Logie

GVTV in the running for a Logie award

In an embarrassing gaffe, TV Week have apologised to Gridiron Victoria after the nominations for the 2014 Logie Awards omitted GVTV from the list of potential winners.

At a star studded bash in Melbourne yesterday afternoon the who’s who of Australian television celebrated the lead up to television’s night of nights.

After five nominations for the Most Popular Sports Program were read out, only this morning was the error recognised and the complete list released to media outlets:

  • GVTV: Gridiron Victoria Television (Channel 31)
  • Before the Game (Network Ten)
  • The AFL Footy Show (Nine Network)
  • The Cricket Show (Nine Network)
  • The NRL Footy Show (Nine Network)
  • Wide World of Sports (Nine Network)

This marks the first time a Channel 31 program has been nominated for a Logie. The awards will be read out on Sunday 27th April.

Given the parlous state of sports coverage in Australia, GV is absolutely in the mix to take home the Logie. We will be reporting live from television’s night of nights.
