Gridiron Victoria promoted on Channel 10 news

Former Geelong Captain and current NFL punter for the Arizona Cardinal’s Ben Graham’s visited the Bay City Buccaneers for their opening game last weekend, and it featured in a news piece on Channel 10.

This is a fantastic coup for the league which is sure to help promote the game in Victoria. Kudos to the Buccaneers for getting Graham to toss the coin for the opening game against the Warriors.

Gridiron Victoria appear in Melbourne MX paper

Gridiron Victoria Article MX MelbourneIf you picked up a copy of MX in Melbourne on Monday afternoon and headed for the sports section, the sight of AFL star Chris Judd in American Football pads might have been a little confusing.

MX ran a feature article about Collingwood’s US ruck import Shae McNamara and the transition from American Football to Aussie Rules.

The article also quoted GV president Dan Levin and the two worked through each position and which AFL star would be best suited to make the switch.

2011 Season opener this weekend

Kicking things off Saturday morning saw the Vic Bowl rematch between the reigning champion Monash Warriors, and the Bay City Buccaneers in Geelong. Ben Graham of NFL team Arizona Cardinals and former Geelong Cats Captain was the Buccaneers’ guest and tossed the  coin pre-game.

The Buccaneers overcame a 6-6 half time stalemate to run away with the win 41-6. In the later game, the Melbourne Royals defeated the Ballarat Pioneers 38-0.

The other two games were at Ranger Field in Croydon with the Northern Raiders defeating a stoic Monash Barbarians 24-8, followed by a thriller with the host Croydon Rangers being defeated by the Western Crusaders 22-20.

GV official Paul Mercer selected for World Cup

Victorian Gridiron official Paul Mercer  has been selected as part of the officiating crew for the Gridiron World Cup in Austria in July.

This appointment is well deserved and recognises Paul’s tireless dedication to the sport over many years.

Gridiron Victoria congratulates Paul and wishes him all the best as he joins the Australian team in Austria for the World Cup.
