Former Barbarian Sean O’Kane is packing his bags and heading for Middle Tennessee State University in Conference USA (the Blue Raiders).
Sean, 6’3 leaves Australia Wednesday and with camp beginning Sunday 3rd August he will challenge for the punting position as a walk on. His first game would be against Savannah State on the 30th August whilst home field is Johnny “red” Floyd stadium that holds a mere 30,000 people!
In his time at Monash he played wide receiver and punter and starred in the 2012 Division Two championship team against the Royals at Moorabbin
Prior to his Gridiron career he played Australian rules for Blackburn FC and Collegians FC, honing that cannon of a leg that will serve him well at MTSU.
GV spoke with Sean this morning:
I’m really excited at the opportunity to play and study in another country and looking forward to getting stuck into training camp.
In addition to playing, Sean served the league incredibly as secretary for 2 years and was instrumental in running the Vic Bowl last year.
All the best Sean from everyone at Gridiron Victoria.
