2011 World Championship of American Football

Best of luck to all the Victorian players representing Australia at the 2011 World Championship of American Football in Austria.

Update Game 3 – Germany defeats Australia 30-20

The Aussie boys bounced back from their first two losses to take the fight to the Germans, scoring three touchdowns to be within 3 points for most of the final quarter.

Buccaneers linebacker James McFadzean had 8 solo tackles and 1 assist to lead the defense, Crusaders receiver Tyson Garnham had 5 catches for 65 yards whilst Crusaders DB Andrew Yeung made an interception. Full stats can be downloaded here.

2011 World Championships Broadcast Schedule

International fans can watch nine games on the ‘Official Internet Stream’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Wednesday, July 6 – PARIS, FRANCE – The majority of games played at the 2011 IFAF Senior World Championship of American football will be aired on ORF television in Austria and across the European continent by Eurosport 2.

The nine ORF-broadcast games will also be available free of charge to a worldwide audience through the ‘Official Internet Stream of the 2011 IFAF World Championship of American Football powered by ORF’ on thewww.IFAF.org website.  Additional games will be streamed in some territories through a pay-per-view Eurosport 2 webcast.

GV official Paul Mercer selected for World Cup

Victorian Gridiron Officials

Victorian Gridiron official Paul Mercer  has been selected as part of the officiating crew for the Gridiron World Cup in Austria in July.

This appointment is well deserved and recognises Paul’s tireless dedication to the sport over many years.

Gridiron Victoria congratulates Paul and wishes him all the best as he joins the Australian team in Austria for the World Cup.

Senior State Head Coach Applications Open

Applications are now open for the Head Coach of the Gridirion Victoria Eagles Senior State Team, competing in 2012.

2011 Australian World Cup Team Announced

The Board of Directors of Gridiron Australia are pleased to announce that Head Coach John Leijten has selected 40 players for the Senior Outback Train-on Squad for the 2011 IFAF World Cup.

Congratulations go to the following Victorians who made the squad:

  • Tyson Garnham (Western Crusaders)
  • Adam Gotsis (Monash Warriors)
  • David Murphy (Western Crusaders)
  • Jon Tostovin (Monash Warriors)
  • Scott Wolfe (Monash Warriors)
  • Andrew Yeung (Western Crusaders)

A final squad of 45 players will represent Australia at the 2011 IFAF World Cup of American Football which will be held in Austria in July.
