Week one of our biggest and best season every #GV30 kicked off this weekend!
Down at The Cove in Corio our newest team the South Eastern Predators took on the Western Crusaders on a division one conference showdown.
The Predators scored on a 40 yard punt return and scores never changed to take their maiden win 6-0 over the Crusaders.
The 2013 Vic Bowl followed with the Buccaneers hosting the Warriors. A shoot out ensued with the Buccs holding a slender 22-16 lead at the half. Home team took over in the 2nd half running out winners 49-22.
In Croydon under heavy rain the Gippsland Gladiators jumped out to an early lead 14-0 at the half but the Ballarat Falcons came storming back with successive touchdowns and a QB bootleg 2 point conversion to win their first ever game 16-14.
This was followed by the Croydon Rangers hosting the Bendigo Dragons. Rangers returned the opening kickoff to the house but the Dragons bounced back with a TD to lead 8-6 at the break. The home team scored twice in the 2nd half to win 18-8.
On Sunday we headed to Bren’s Oval Parkville where our two newest division two teams faced off. The Pakenham Silverbacks got a safety for their first ever points before the home town Melbourne Uni Lions added a touchdown. The Silverbacks also scored a TD and the match was a draw 8-8.
In the afternoon game the Melbourne Uni Royals got out to a commanding 13-0 lead over the Berwick Miners before the Miners cut the deficit to 7 with a score. Then with less than 10 seconds remaining in the match, the Miners scored a touchdown and converted the 2pt attempt to pull out an incredible last gasp win 14-13.
Over at LE Cotchin Reserve Reservoir the Northern Raiders hosted the Monash Barbarians. The Barbarians scored three straight touchdowns to lead 22-0 before the Raiders answered twice and cut the lead to 8. However the Barbarians added one more to win 30-14.
